The Last lecture by Randy Pausch: Achieving your Childhood Dream

Among the people who really make the difference Randy Pause is someone who is all about enabling others to achieve their dreams. In order to help enable others to be better people, he shared his ideas for living and ways to make life better , even though he was fighting hard with pancreatic cancer.

The speech is all about how to live a successful life with fulfilled childhood dream. In his lecture he presents slides of his CT scans beaming out to the audience, Randy told his audience about the cancer that is plundering his pancreas and going to claim his life with in the matter of months.

On the stage that day, he seems youthful often cheerfully, darkly funny. Nobody can guess he has cancer. He seemed invincible. But this was a brief moment, as he himself acknowledged. But his legacy will continue to inspire us all, for generations to come.

In his lecture he talks about the different ideas. Each of them are insightful, and actuate his audience to live a real life. He had a beautiful family and a job of his dream. Prestige, money, power, almost everything he had. In short a perfect life. it was his unfortunate, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After that he spent most of the time with his family instead of fulfilling remaining dream of his life. He felt he needed to teach his children what he would have even though he would not be there. Unfortunately, they were too young for some conversations. He wanted to teach them right and wrong, what was important to him, how to deal with challenges, life stories, etc, but he realized he would not have the chance to do those things.

He looks very funny throughout his whole lecture. He kicks off the lecture with push-ups to show that he is in good shape. He says, we gotta accept the things what we have, the most important thing to notice is how we handle the situation. “We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand”, he says.

For his presentation, he wore “childhood-dream garb,” which was a polo he got from his sabbatical spent with Walt Disney Mountaineering. He thought wearing a representation of his dream fulfillment would enable others to chase their dreams. After all Walt Disney did say, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”
Additionally he says, If something is important and wanted badly enough, we should find a way to achieve or acquire it. When Randy was courting his wife, Jai, he employed persistence. They were living in two different states, so he gave her his frequent flier miles in order to see her more. She refused at first; however, after he sent a dozen roses and a note that said he was sad but respected her decision and wished her the best. She then got on a plane to visit him. Later, he asks her to move to Pittsburgh. She ended up backing out due to fear and saying she did not love him when he came to visit her in order to help her pack and move. Randy’s response to her uncertainty was “Look, I’m going to find a way to be happy, and I’d really love to be happy with you, but if I can’t be happy with you, then I’ll find a way to be happy without you.” After not talking to him for a few days, Jai decided she missed him and moved to Pittsburgh. Without Randy’s persistence, he may have never married the woman of his dreams. This is definitely an example of persistence paying off.

Even in fairytale situations, things do not always go as planned. It is important to remember that things do not always go perfectly and a backup plan is a necessity. If you plan for disaster, you will have a plan if it strikes. It is important to make the best out of every situation, and optimism is important in the situations that seem impossible. When Randy and Jai got married, they decided to ride away in a hot air balloon. Well, the balloon ride was not exactly a fairytale. Hot air balloons cannot just be put down anywhere and conditions for the balloon ride were not perfect. When the balloon was finally set down, it was near a set of train tracks with an oncoming train rushing towards them. The newlyweds had to make a run for it, but thankfully everything turned out okay. There was no horrible ending, but they made a run for it just in case. Even if you do not need a plan, it does not hurt to have one.

Throughout his lecture he introduces many amazing facts to make people believe . In his opinion, time is fitness and it should be managed like money. once wasted it can never be replaced. The plans and dreams are changeable, but there always we have to have one. He also emphasize the importance of Self-examination. Remaining optimistic is the greatest ever thing in the life, if we able to maintain our spirit even in the hard time, believe, the success will follow us. We need patience for this. To achieve something, we should dream as big as we can accompanied by asking question to ourselves and others too. Showing gratitude and making apology is the most importance thing that we can do to get regards , even when we are making mistakes. Complain makes the thing worst. Just we have to wait and see, definitely we hit the result of our dream.

In a nut shell, if we are able to dream, and lead our life in right way, and live properly the childhood dream comes true to us. If we are able to dream we could do it, with the mantra of hard work and honesty.
